About Soul Haven Sacred Death Doula - Our Caring Mission
About Soul Haven

Soul Haven was founded by Brandi Vaughn to provide compassionate, trauma-informed end-of-life care that honors the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

For more than 20 years, Brandi has served families throughout Detroit, Michigan, with compassion, advocacy, and community-centered care. That lifelong commitment to supporting others has evolved into a calling to walk beside individuals and families during one of life's most sacred transitions.

At Soul Haven, we believe no one should face death, dying, or grief alone. Our mission is to provide gentle guidance, emotional support, practical resources, and a comforting presence for individuals, families, and caregivers throughout the end-of-life journey.

Whether preparing for a peaceful transition, navigating an unexpected or traumatic loss, or seeking support through grief, Soul Haven offers a place where dignity is honored, stories are cherished, and every family is met with empathy, respect, and grace.

Our Promise

"To hold space with compassion, honor every life with dignity, and walk alongside every family with genuine care—because every goodbye deserves to be met with love."

Our founder

Why I Became a Death Doula

The spring of 1985 changed my life before I even understood why.

I was six years old when my grandmother gently told me to sit on the porch. I remember the smell in the air, the song of the wind chime as the breeze passed through, and a heaviness I couldn't explain. Inside the house, I could hear the cries and wails of the women in my family as they gathered after the death of a loved one.

At six years old, I didn't understand death. I didn't have the words for grief, trauma, or loss. But I understood that something sacred was happening. I witnessed how an entire family carried sorrow together and how love was expressed through tears, presence, faith, and community. That experience stayed with me, planting a seed that would eventually grow into my life's purpose.

I became a death doula because I believe every person deserves to leave this world with dignity, compassion, and peace, and every family deserves someone to walk beside them through grief.

Today, I serve individuals and families through a trauma-informed, culturally responsive approach, recognizing that grief is deeply personal and often shaped by generations of lived experiences. My heart is especially devoted to supporting African American communities, where conversations about death, trauma, healing, and end-of-life planning have too often been overlooked or left unspoken.

My role is not to take away pain but to help carry it with compassion. I create a safe and supportive space where stories can be shared, tears can be honored, fears can be acknowledged, and every life can be remembered with dignity, respect, and love.

Being a death doula is more than what I do—it is how I answer my calling. It is my privilege to be a calm, compassionate presence during life's most sacred transition, helping individuals and families find comfort, connection, and hope, even in the midst of goodbye.
